Midland ER310
The Midland ER310 is a portable emergency weather-radio option for a go-bag or outage kit. Midland is my go-to weather-radio brand. Match the radio's alert features and power options to how you will use it before buying.

Reception and alert mode come first
Midland's ER310 manual lists AM, FM and seven NOAA weather channels. It also explains a separate WX Alert standby mode. Receiving a weather broadcast and enabling automatic alerts are different setup steps: tune a clear local channel, follow the manual and confirm reception where you will keep the radio.
The ER310 includes a flashlight and crank/solar charging options. Prepare and charge the radio before storms; those backup charging options should not be a reason to leave your kit unready.
Portable radio or home warning receiver?
For a fixed home setup, compare the Midland WR120B and Midland WR400. If county-selective alerts matter to you, check each model's SAME programming before buying. The NOAA weather-radio buying guide explains what to compare.
